In the early stages, we work with a wide range of US government and industrial organisations to support the development of the UK’s capability requirements. An extensive programme of collaboration covers policy, doctrine and concepts, analysis, experimentation, science and technology, simulation, and technology demonstration. Our collaboration allows the UK and US to share and exploit the best ideas, ensures that US and UK forces will be interoperable in the future and allows military capability to be delivered in a more cost effective way.
Once capability gaps have been identified, we influence the development of the requirements and acquisition strategies for equipment projects and then support project delivery. Nearly all UK military equipment projects have a US dimension. Many are procured from US suppliers, most use US technology (such as GPS) and nearly all need to be interoperable with US equipment.
BDS-US’s collaboration and liaison work an essential part of the process of delivering the UK’s soldiers, sailors and airmen the right kit for the right price at the right time.
