Andrew Radcliffe was born and raised in Cornwall . Educated at St. Austell Grammar School and Portsmouth Polytechnic (BA Geography), he joined the United Kingdom MOD in 1979. Since joining, Andrew has undertaken a number of roles in procurement, international relations, policy, science and technology.
Most of is recent career has been spent in equipment procurement with a strong emphasis on international programmes both with the United States and Europe . In 1990, he was posted to the US Navy Sea Systems Command in Washington D.C. , where he spent three years as a business manager in the US/UK Surface Ship Torpedo Defense Joint Project. On his return to London he became the commercial manager for the Anglo-Italian helicopter programme, EH101, and the UK ’s Merlin Anti Submarine Warfare helicopter. He was then seconded to NATO for four years to work in the Eurofighter and Tornado fighter aircraft management agency based in Munich . Andrew returned to the UK in 2000 and his next three positions have all been at the Defence Procurement Agency, Bristol . Firstly, working again on the Eurofighter Typhoon project and then in the International Relations Group (IRG). In the IRG he was responsible for a wide range of bilateral and multi-lateral relationships involving the US , Europe and the rest of the world. In 2002 he became the Commercial and Procurement Director of a government/industry alliance that is being established to acquire two new aircraft carriers for the UK . On 25 July 2005 Andrew moved to Washington DC to become Counsellor (Defence Equipment) in the British Embassy.
He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and has a Diploma in Purchasing and Supply.
Andrew is married with two daughters and lives in McLean. He enjoys most sports and outdoor pursuits.
