US/UK defence equipment co-operation is extensive and involves projects valued at billions of dollars.

Within the British Defence Staff-US, responsibility for all US/UK defence equipment issues falls to the Counsellor (Defence Equipment), Andrew Radcliffe. Andrew's staff focus on projects where an equipment solution has already been defined - general scientific and technological co-operation is covered by the staff of the Counsellor (Defence Science and Technology).

The Defence Equipment area is divided into five areas:

Commercial - procuring US defence equipment and services for use by the UK Ministry of Defence;

Policy - advising on broad issues affecting US/UK equipment co-operation and supporting the efforts of UK industry in the US defence equipment field;

Projects -  covering US/UK joint development programmes

Trade - advising on broad issues affecting US/UK equipment co-operation and supporting the efforts of UK industry in the US defence equipment field

Legal - supporting negotiations of underpinning agreements and other legal issues
