Defence and security co-operation is underpinned by numerous bilateral arrangements which govern our relationship with the US.

Attaché Defence Equipment (Legal) holds a brief to provide legal support and advice in respect present and future arrangements between HMG and USG on defence and security matters. ADE (Legal), presently Bill Cruickshank, is located with the British Defence Staff in the British Embassy, Washington DC.

Bill is available to assess best practice and provide problem solving strategies to optimise UK/US co-operation and is also able to provide support and advice in respect of;

• UK / US intergovernmental arrangements including Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and Information Exchange Agreements (IEAs)
• Understanding US Export Controls and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations
• Assisting UK defence industry to best protect the Intellectual Property Rights of UK owned technology in the US marketplace
• Integrated Project Teams developing US engagement strategies
• UK procurement strategies regarding US equipment
